Souk El Had
Souk El Had is Agadir’s great market: a walled city of thousands of stalls selling everything from spices and argan oil to fabric, shoes and fresh fruit. It is where people from Agadir actually shop, not just tourists.
The souk is laid out in sections. There are halls for fruit and vegetables, for olives and spices, for argan oil and amlou, for clothes, leather, carpets and household goods. It is easy to spend a whole morning here.
“Had” means Sunday, the original market day, and Sunday is still the busiest day, with traders from the villages around Agadir. The market is open from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays.
Much of the souk is under open sky or light roofs. In the middle of a hot day the alleys can feel stuffy, so mornings are the most comfortable time. On rare rainy days, some of the lanes get muddy.
